Is there a benefit to using remote sensing in reclamation monitoring?

/in“Using drones to replace boots on the ground will save you time and money.” That’s the promise that everyone is hearing as drones and other remote sensing tools become more accessible. Remote sensing is the science of obtaining information about objects or areas from a distance, without making physical contact. In other words, it means data collection by aircraft, robots, satellites, or anything else that isn’t a person. Over the last five years, Trace has been using remote sensing to reduce boots on the ground for a post-construction environmental monitoring (PCEM) project for an interprovincial pipeline, and we’re happy to say that the claims about saving time and money are true! The program has been effective and has reduced the total field effort by close to 30% compared to traditional methods.
